Nubian Village Academy (NVA) is a 501c3  non-profit that was founded in the fall of 2001 serving Pre-K to 8th grade. The mission was to arm each student with an education that will engage the whole student and promote a lifetime of learning through an education that is academically challenging and culturally relevant. Over the years, we saw an increase in the need to create a pipeline of underrepresented students, interested in pursuing careers in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM). In 2009, we started a Pre College Initiative (PCI) of the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) to fulfill our goal to stimulate interest in STEM and to enhance students academic performance, technical, and leadership skills. We believe this would prepare 21st century students for the unique demands in a Global Society. Through this initiative, we targeted our outreach to serve students 3rd thru 12th grade in the Richmond Metropolitan Area and it wasn't long before we quietly became known as Nubian Village Academy for STEM (NVA STEM).

NVA STEM is an enrichment program that supports local students in the Greater Richmond, VA public, private, and home schools. The program offers important advantages for students interested in STEM fields. Participants receive automatic membership to our NSBE PCI Chapter. We offer monthly workshops, Industry Guest Speakers, STEM Competitions, out-of-town Conferences, College Fairs, STEM Abroad Trips and Community Service Opportunities.

In general, the program is college-oriented, helping underserved students to understand what all is involved in the various STEM fields. We help students prepare for college, careers in STEM, and entrepreneurship with the help of our many community partners.

All registered students will receive a bi-annual magazine called NSBE BRIDGE, SAT/ACT resources, college admission preparation assistance, scholarships, Science fair, mentoring, tutoring and much more.  Students can also download $3500 worth of software from Microsoft.
