Arrival- Reykjavik City Tour
ARRIVE Keflavik: After you collect your luggage and clear customs you will be met outside the terminal by hotel local representative, who will transfer group by van to our selected hotel in Reykjavik. (Reykjavik Hotel,) Enjoy a day of leisure.
Start your adventure around Reykjavík and hop on to our bus at the Harpa Concert Hall & Conference Centre. Appreciate the breeze from the open air as you'll approach the Old Harbour, a real cultural hot spot. Full of an explosion of colours, each building has a unique character! You even have the chance to partake in some whale watching! Spot minke and humpback whales, porpoises or even dolphins. For an exciting taste of history and archaeology, visit Reykjavik City Museum and enjoy a high-tech, interactive multi-media experience, which will delight all the family. Technology meets history here as the museum's exhibition is centred round the excavation of a Viking longhouse dating from the 10th century. Hop off at Laekjargata and see some of the oldest houses in Iceland in Laekjargata, a street that fully reflects this city's culture. One stop not to miss is the Perlan. Hop off and explore the viewing deck, where you can see views for miles through the panoramic telescopes. Visit the Laugardalur Valley, also known as the Hot Spring Valley. Here you'll be able to swim in the outdoor heated pools, no matter what the weather conditions are like! The zoo is nearby too, a great day trip out for all the family!
Golden Circle
On this trip you can experience the highlights of Iceland. We drive along glacial rivers and beautiful landscapes, on our way to three jewels of the Icelandic crown, the Gullfoss waterfall, the Þingvellir National Park, and the Geysir hot spring area. Your trip to Iceland won’t be completed without a visit to those sites.
At Þingvellir we’ll encounter the birth place of the Icelandic nation, as well as the foundation site of the first Viking Parliament or Alþingi in the year of 930. It is still the oldest existing parliament in the world. Þingvellir is one of the spots where we can appreciate more clearly the forces shaping our planet as the tectonic plates spread apart creating new crust. We visit the visual Rift Between the Eurasian and American Continents.
We come to Gullfoss Waterfall one of Iceland most beautiful sight. Not a coincidence that its name translates as the Golden Waterfall.
Geysir hot spring reputation precedes it as the gusher that gave the international name to the phenomenon “Hot Spring” doesn’t need much introduction. His neighbor, Strokkur, will blow steam high in the air few times per hour for our delight.
Snaefellsnes Peninsula
Driving north from Reykjavik through the Hvalfjordur tunnel and the small town of Borgarnes, we continue north until we reach Snæfellsnes peninsula and although this journey is quite long, around 2 hours, the scenery is very rewarding, and we will make a short comfort stop along the way.
Stretching out into the ocean directly west from Iceland, this peninsula has a bit of everything that you can find elsewhere in Iceland.Throughout much of our journey we will have views of the Snæfellsjokull glacier and will be surrounded by the natural beauty of high mountains and fjords. There are fabulous coastal roads and also surreal landscapes of lava fields and mountains offering an amazing array of geological features and vistas.
We spend the day exploring the coastline with visits to the tiny hamlet of Arnarstapi. There we will see stunning sea cliffs and during the summer season, nesting bird colonies. Along the coast we spend time exploring the black sand beaches and lava stacks at Djupalon. We will stop at one of the small fishing villages hiding in sheltered bays surrounded by mountains and we will visit the famous Kirkjufell mountain and the pretty waterfall of Kirkjufellsfoss.
Much of the attraction of Snæfellsnes lies in the natural history of the area and we may be lucky enough to see seals, large bird colonies and possibly even whales from the shoreline, as much of the day is spent on the coast. As a result, the day might include other short stops depending upon what we come across in the way of wildlife, on weather, road conditions and time constraints. These extra stops will be at the discretion of your guide on the day, but having this flexibility makes the tour exciting and slightly different each time.
Lunch is not included but there will be opportunities to purchase something to eat along the way.
South Coast
Driving south on Highway 1, we’ll introduce you to the geology, history and folklore of Iceland, while we stop at the magnificent waterfalls of Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss. You will also see, depending on the conditions, Iceland’s newest star, the Eyjafjallajökull volcano, that erupted in 2010.
Following the coastline, we’ll take a detour to a beautiful black sand beach called Reynisfjara. There we can get close to basaltic rock pillars, enjoy the view of a group of sea stacks, and witness the power of the sea. Puffins also nest in this area during the summer.
Another site of the South Coast is the small town of Vík, where we’ll take the lunch stop (now we also have another option for lunch at Reynisfjara, so depending on weather, timing, and amount of people, we might have lunch by the black sand beach at Reynisfjara). The gastronomic selection once outside Reykjavik is the one of a sparsely populated country like Iceland, where the fuel stations are the blood line. Don’t expect fancy restaurants.
After the breath-taking beauty of Reynisfjara coastal scenery, we’ll head out towards the glacier Sólheimajökull, one of the outlet tongues of the ice cap Mýrdalsjökull.
Blue Lagoon
our journey to a wonder of the world begins in Reykjavík where you'll be picked up at your hotel or guesthouse by a Smartbus and taken to the Destination Blue Lagoon bus station. From there, travel for 45 minutes on a luxurious coach to the Blue Lagoon, passing through historic lava fields and into the otherworldly vistas of the Reykjanes UNESCO Global Geopark.
Upon arrival, walk along a 300-meter lava corridor to the entrance of the main complex. After checking in, you’ll receive a towel and electronic wristband that functions as the key to your locker and enables you to make cashless purchases during your visit. Once you’ve showered and changed into your bathing suit, enter the legendary blue waters.
Encompassing 8700 square meters of geothermal seawater, the lagoon opens new dimensions of wellbeing, bringing you into harmony with the transformative powers of nature. Enjoy the mineral-rich warmth of the Blue Lagoon and explore on-site facilities including a sauna, steam room, massage waterfall, and in-water facilities for refreshments and masks. Wander, float, luxuriate, socialize, take pictures, meditate — the lagoon is yours to discover and enjoy.
After experiencing the water's rejuvenating powers, visit the cafe if you're in need of a nourishing light meal, with options including salads, sandwiches, and sushi. Or take a journey along the walking paths to further discover the centuries-old lava fields. At the end of your experience, return on the bus to Reykjavik, then hop back on a Smartbus at the terminal to be dropped off at your accommodation.
Reykjavik Whale Watching
On the Reykjavík Whale Watching tour you will board a ship and brave the waters of the Atlantic Ocean. You will search for whales, and other wildlife in its natural habitat. In the bay around Reykjavík a large variety of Whales, dolphins and birds can be found. The minke whales are playful and in large numbers, along with the quick and quirky white-beaked dolphins, the cute harbour porpoises and the huge humpback whales.
We have more than 15 years experience of guiding and operating whale watching tours in the Faxafói bay, so you can be certain that we love and respect the whales and other wildlife in our native bay. Our trips always bear in mind the wellbeing of the whales and we are also active participants in the protection and research of whales.
All of our whalewatching tours start from our ticket office on the Ægisgarður pier at the Old Harbour in Reykjavík. You can purchase tickets there or exchange vouchers if you have booked a prepaid trip. Your whale watching guide will meet you in our Whale Watching Centre located on board an old fishing vessel that is permanently moored at the pier.
Before or after the tour you can enjoy the onboard multimedia show that includes images and videos providing lots of interesting facts about the whales and marine life in Icelandic waters.
